I have noticed display problems when using PhysicSolver with Windows 98. What can I do about it?
The cursor doesn't change when I select a different Boundary Condition. Can I still apply the selected Boundary Condition?
I have just obtained a solution to a problem. I would like to change some parameters, obtain a new solution, and compare with the previous one. Is this possible?
I have solved a problem of Magnetostatics with a coil where I have prescribed an electric current. After obtaining the solution, the Physical Quantities report indicates a value for the current in the coil that is somewhat different from what I have prescribed. Not only that, but the current in the region outside the coil is not zero! Why?
The mesh generation fails for a geometry where a circle is tangential to another circle or to a straight line. What is wrong?
Does PhysicSolver work properly with Windows 2000 and Windows XP?
The Allocate Elements dialog tells me to select a region by clicking on its name, but the region does not get selected when I do that. What am I doing wrong?

I have noticed display problems when using PhysicSolver with Windows 98. What can I do about it?
Some video drivers used by Windows 98 have problems. We suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the video card in your computer or download the latest version of the video driver. Follow their instructions carefully. If this does not help, try setting your desktop to "no wallpaper." From Start, go to Settings, then to Control Panel, choose Display, choose Background, and select "None" under Wallpaper. To top

The cursor doesn't change when I select a different Boundary Condition. Can I still apply the selected Boundary Condition?
Yes, you can. This problem happens with some video drivers used by Windows 98, but does not happen with Windows 95 or NT. The video driver fails to display the proper cursor on the screen, but the selected Boundary Condition is still valid and you can apply it to any boundary lines. If you still want to see the correct cursor, try minimizing the window, and then restoring it. This fixes the problem in some cases. To top

I have just obtained a solution to a problem. I would like to change some parameters, obtain a new solution, and compare with the previous one. Is this possible?
Unfortunately, no. The feature you describe is used by professional engineers, who design systems by repeatedly changing parameters, until the solution is close to what they need. This feature has not been incorporated in PhysicSolver at this time. You will need to save the geometry, exit PhysicSolver, restart it again, and reopen the same geometry. To top

I have solved a problem of Magnetostatics with a coil where I have prescribed an electric current. After obtaining the solution, the Physical Quantities report indicates a value for the current in the coil that is somewhat different from what I have prescribed. Not only that, but the current in the region outside the coil is not zero! Why?
The current values given in the Physical Quantities report are not the prescribed values. Instead, they are calculated as the circulation of the calculated H around the corresponding region. If the solution were exact, these calculated values would have been exactly equal to the prescribed ones. However, the solution is only approximate, and that's why the calculated values differ from the prescribed ones. The amount by which they differ is a good indication of the numerical error of your solution. Try improving the quality of your mesh. You should see that the reported currents become more close to the prescribed ones. To top

The mesh generation fails for a geometry where a circle is tangential to another circle or to a straight line. What is wrong?
The angle at the point where a circle is tangential to another circle or to a straight line is exactly zero. That condition can not be represented by a reasonably proportioned triangular finite element. The mesh generator will attempt to adapt a triangle, and will succeed in most cases, but may fail on occasion. Try changing the mesh size in the region where the small angle is located. To top

Does PhysicSolver work properly with Windows 2000 and Windos XP?
Yes, PhysicSolver has been tested with both Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and it works properly. You should not notice any difference. To top

The Allocate Elements dialog tells me to select a region by clicking on its name, but the region does not get selected when I do that. What am I doing wrong?
This problem has been observed on systems running Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Fortunately, there is an easy way around. Simply click on the region's name and drag the cursor slightly while you are holding the mouse button, then release the button. This causes the region to get selected. To top
